Characters

Create a consistent AI character once, with AI portraits, then type @name in any prompt to keep the same face and body in every video.

Characters are your recurring cast. You create a character once, with up to 4 AI portraits and a description, then type @name in any prompt. Their photos are sent as references, so the face and body stay the same from video to video.

Create a character

  1. Open Characters and choose Create a character.
  2. Pick a handle: 2–20 characters, lowercase letters, digits and _, starting with a letter (for example lena or the_boss). You will type it as @lena.
  3. Add up to 4 AI portraits, generated from a description. Different angles work best; put the clearest face first.
  4. Write a look description (up to 1,500 characters), for example "late 20s woman, slim athletic build, long wavy auburn hair, green eyes, freckles, small tattoo on her left wrist".
  5. Confirm the person is 18+, consented, and is not a celebrity, then save.

AI portraits

  • Cost: 20 credits per image. Your first 4 are free after you verify your email.
  • Angles: Front, 3/4 view, Chest-up, Hips-up, Full body.
  • Clothing: Clothed or Nude.
  • From a description, the portrait shows a fictional adult (25+).
  • Same person as the portraits: uses your first 3 portraits as identity references for a new angle.
  • Portraits can take a few minutes. Failed portraits are refunded.

Using a character

  • Type @lena anywhere in a prompt, a timeline part or a Scene builder description.
  • In Text to video, a character with photos switches the job to References mode ("their photos will be used, so this video is made in References mode").
  • Character photos count toward the model's image limit (Wan 10, Seedance 30).
  • Never write a real name in your prompt: names are blocked. @handles are fine.

Characters for Replace character

Only characters whose portraits were all generated with AI from a description (or taken from your own AI videos) can replace someone in a video. Characters built from real photos are greyed out there.

Tips for consistent characters

  • Generate 3–4 AI portraits of the same character at different angles: Front, 3/4 view and Full body cover most scenes.
  • Keep the description specific (hair color and length, build, distinctive marks) and stable.
  • In the prompt, describe the action and place, not the character's face again; the photos do that.

Questions

How many characters can be in one video?

As many as fit in the model image limit (10 images for Wan, 30 for Seedance, 4 photos per character). For the clearest results use one or two people per clip.

Why is my character greyed out in Replace character?

It uses real photos. Only characters with AI portraits generated from a description can replace someone in a video.

Can I use a photo of myself?

Yes, if you are 18 or older. For anyone else you need their consent, and celebrities are never allowed. Note that the video model often refuses photos that look real; AI portraits work best.
